1. Consult
Because we are based in Herndon, the first visit is usually easy to schedule. We look at the bathroom with you: what works, what does not, who uses it and when. We open the vanity to look at the shutoff valves, check the fan and where it vents, and look for signs of old leaks around the tub and toilet.
Your part: bring your top three frustrations, a rough budget range and a few photos of bathrooms you like. If you know whether your home is inside Herndon town limits, tell us; if not, your real estate tax bill or the Town can confirm it.
2. Design
We develop the layout, fixture plan and material direction, and turn it into a written scope. Moving a shower, adding a second sink or rerouting the fan duct is decided here because each affects plumbing, electrical and permits.
Your part: read the scope line by line. Ask what is included and what is not, and make sure any allowance has a clear dollar amount.
3. Select
Tile, vanity, countertop, faucets, toilet, glass and lighting are finalized before demolition so nothing holds up a bathroom that is already torn out. We install products from brands including Kohler, American Standard, Moen, Daltile and Schluter.
Your part: make selections on time. Late changes are the most common reason a bathroom stays out of service longer than planned.
4. Build
Demolition, rough-in plumbing and electrical, waterproofing, tile, fixtures and finish work. For homes inside the Town of Herndon, permits come from the Town's Building Inspections office; outside town limits, from Fairfax County. Rough-in inspections happen before the walls close.
Your part: clear the bathroom and the path to it, keep pets and kids out of the work area, and if you are in a townhouse or condo, give your neighbors or association a heads-up about work hours and parking.
5. Complete
We walk the finished bathroom with you, explain how to care for the materials, take care of any closeout items and hand over the space.
Your part: test everything during the walkthrough: shower, fan, every light, every outlet, both sinks. Note anything that needs attention.
